The Prison Museum of Prishtina opens today

With the temporary exhibition "Prison of the Ideal", the Prison Museum of Pristina opened today. The history, the suppression of the idea of freedom, the confessions and the resistance of the political prisoners will now be told and felt in a special way, inside one of the buildings where the mistreatment took place.

The exhibition brings historical texts, photographs, illustrations, video material and interviews with confessions, the artistic creativity of the prison such as paintings and poems by former prisoners, the names of over 9000 former Albanian political prisoners in this and other prisons of Kosovo.

The Minister of Culture, Hajrulla Çeku, the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Saranda Bogujevci, the President of the Association of Political Prisoners, Hydajet Hyseni, former political prisoners and many other activists of the national issue were present at the event.

In his speech, Minister Çeku said, among other things, that this is the first step towards turning this building into a center for documenting and exposing the crimes of the Yugoslavian and Serbian regimes against Albanians.

While Hydajet Hyseni emphasized that by turning the prison into a new museum, Prishtina will have a monumental educational, inspiring and memorial building.

By decision of the MCYS, from today, the Prison Museum of Prishtina is also a protected asset of cultural heritage.

The Ideal Prison is open to visitors from 10:00 to 19:00, every day except Mondays.
