Ismail Kadare, laureate of International Prize “Albanian Literature”

Today, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Kujtim Shala, in consultation with the Book Council, decided to award the International Prize “Albanian Literature” to the writer Ismail Kadare for his enormous contribution given to the Albanian and world literature.

This special prize is given for persons who with their works have provided essential influence for emancipation of the society, raise of overall awareness about emancipating values, with special attention, through literature, thus influencing its recognition worldwide.

The mentioned prize is €10 thousand and is given to persons that are citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, Albania or any other country that gave priceless contribution to the Albanian literature.

This prize, based on the Regulation, is given by the Minister, in cooperation with the Book Council.

Minister, Kujtim Shala stated that the laureate, Ismail Kadare, puts this prize in a high international standard. This prize, as such, will be helpful for further acceptance, recognition and affirmation of Albanian literature.

Shala further added that such a prize and evaluation is something that the Albanian literature was missing.

The solemn ceremony will be held in Prishtina.
