National Investment Council approved the major project for the construction of the National Stadium

National Investment Council, held its regular meeting today, in which it has been approved the project "Construction of the National Football Stadium in Prishtina".

This step is extremely important, as it marks the beginning of legal activities for the realization of the project funding, considered in this case, Kujtim Shala, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Minister Shala, said to the members of the Council, that this project is part of the Government Programme of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as one of the fundamental goals of the MCYS.

Also, Minister Shala said that Kosovo's government in 2014, with a particular decision, has decided to build the National Stadium and the decision has designated the place for its construction, which is Prishtina.

Further, Shala said that on the basis of that decision, the MCYS has identified and developed the procedures for determining the location, exactly in Bernice e Poshtme, a location situated 4.5 km from the center of Prishtina, in an area of about 38 hectares in which, apart from the national Stadium, will be built sports facilities of national character.

In his speech, Shala further added that after the accession of the Football Federation of Kosovo in UEFA and FIFA, Kosovo must meet standards that have been set by these two organizations, which are the most important of the football world, including infrastructure.

Project funding of the National Football Stadium, due to the nature of the project, should be treated separately and be negotiated through a separate financial agreement.

The total project cost is expected to be defined, but, based on similar models of stadiums, it is estimated to be 40-50 million Euros.

Finally, Shala said that the construction of the National Stadium will significantly improve the conditions of the infrastructure of sport and in particular football. While, the construction of the National Center for Sports will help to fulfill the international criteria and will make possible carrying out international sports activities in our country, and another contribution will be employment in the National Sports Center, which will be managed through conditions provided by law, by the Kosovo Government.
