KOSOVO AND USA STRENGTHEN COOPERATION IN FAVOR OF BOOK

13.04.2018

Within the "Library Week in Kosovo", Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Rexhep Hoti, received today in a meeting Dr. Robert D. Montoya, Assistant Professor at Indiana University, and Deputy Director of the Public Relations Sector at the US Embassy in Pristina, Erin Molnar Mains.

At this meeting, Deputy Minister Hoti, initially informed the guests about the state of libraries in Kosovo. He thanked prof. Montoya and Mrs. Mains for their visit and willingness to cooperate in improving the status of Kosovo libraries. Deputy Minister Hoti also thanked for the support and contribution given to the libraries of Kosovo, especially the United States of America, through their Embassy in Kosovo, that have realized numerous projects through which Kosovo libraries have been enriched with English literature and financial support for Kosovo Libraries. The Deputy Minister, Rexhep Hoti, requested that this cooperation continue even further, especially by requiring that financing of books in English be made even in rural areas.

On the other hand, the professor from Indiana University, Robert D. Montoya, said he is staying in Kosovo to support the activities of the Library Week. He also expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Ministry of Culture and thus to see how the Ministry could support the National Libraries in order to carry out the duties set out in the Law on Libraries, with particular emphasis on training librarians at the country level.

On their part, Professor Montoya and Mrs. Mains also said that it would be of interest to develop a long-term and sustainable national plan for librarian training, through which all those who would like to work in Kosovo libraries would be certified. They stressed that this issue becomes even more important, given that librarians in Kosovo do not have any opportunities for education in the field of librarianship in the country.
